CONSTITUTION:When a write instruction and write data are given to a control circuit 14, an amplifier 13a for writing gives a write current to a head 12a for writing to magnetize a tape 1. When the magnetized tape passes under a head 12b for reading, an electric signal is outputted by the head 12b and is converted to digital data by an amplifier 13 for reading. This data is checked for errors by an error detector 15, and data and the check result are transmitted to the control circuit 14. The control circuit 14 transmits this information to the external. Thus, since write errors are discriminated just after writing, errors are detected without waiting one rotation of the tape to shorten the processing time.
