Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform wide-range and good speed control by a method wherein a cyclo converter is operated as a variable frequency power source for power commutation motor at low speed and Scherbius operation is applied to an induction motor by using the cyclo converter at a high speed area. CONSTITUTION:A cyclo converter C is used as a variable frequency power source operating by power commutation by opening a switch S1 and by closing switches S2, S3. An induction motor IM is started under this condition. In this case, the variable frequency power source by the cyclo converter C is applied to the rotor side of the induction motor IM and a stator side is short-circuited by the switch S2. Therefore, a power frequency is varied by the cyclo converter. Accordingly, the induction motor IM is operated at variable speed. When the rotation of the induction motor IM arrives at perdetermined speed or over, the switches S1, S2, S3 are selected and the cyclo converter C is used as an inverter regenerating the secondary power of the induction motor IM to a power side.
