PURPOSE:To increase the supporting load of a guide bearing device for a vertical shaft rotary electric machine by forming a spherical surface at the end of an adjustment screw when a bearing metal is adjusted by the screw from the back surface, and forming a recess surface of large curvature on the back surface of the bearing metal, thereby preventing the wear and deformation of the contacting surface. CONSTITUTION:When a vertical rotary shaft 1 is supported by a bearing metal 2 of a segment type guide bearing and the metal gap is adjusted by an adjustment screw 5 from the back surface of the metal 2, the end 5a of the screw 5 is formed in a spherical surface, and a cylindrical recess 3a hving larger curvature than the end of the screw is formed on the back surface of an insert 3 contacted with the screw 5. In this manner, it can prevent the wear and deformation of the contacting surface of the screw 5 with the insert 3, can increase the supporting load of the bearing, and can prevent the increase of the metal gap due to ageing.
