Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between N-substituted-3,7-dihalophenothiazine and dibinylbenzene is conducted in the presence of a catalyst and a hydrogen halide acceptor to produce a phenothiazine derivative having high photoconductivity.
CONSTITUTION: The condensation reaction between an N-substituted-3,7-dihalophenothiazine of formulaI(R is 1W16C alkyl, cylcoalkyl; X is Br, I) and a divinylbenzene, preferably p-divinylbenzene is conducted using a combination of palladium acetate and a triarylphosphine as a catalyst in the presence of a hydrogen halide acceptor of a tertiary amine such as triethylamine at 75W150°C to give a phenothiazine derivative of formula II (n is integer).
EFFECT: The product is better than poly-N-vinylcarbazole in photoconductivity.
