Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of weld defects and to improve the quality of an electric welded pipe by heating the opposite end faces to be butt-welded, and controlling the heating in such a way that the min. temp. position thereof attains the predetermined min. welding temp. or above. CONSTITUTION:The min. temp. of an open pipe OP to be butt-welded is determined in accordance with the temp. distributions in the wall thickness direction of the end faces FF in the edge parts of said pipe. This is compared with the predetermined reference value, and welding conditions is so set and controlled that the entire part of the end face EF is heated to at least the min. welding temp. or above when the part showing the min. temp. is at the butt point 0.
