Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate the purification of cyanogen-contng. waste water containing heavy metals, while reducing an amount of by-produced sludge, by reducing the cyanogen-contng. waste water in the presence of a copper salt, and then adjusting the pH value of the waste water at 1W4 to remove the resultant precipitate.
CONSTITUTION: A copper salt, e.g. cuprous chloride or cupric sulfate, is added to cyanogen-contng. waste water containing heavy metals such as Ni, Cr, Mn, Co, W, Zn and Pb. The waste water is then subjected to reducing treatment by the addition of a reducing agent or an electrolytical reducing method. The reducing agent, e.g. sodium sulfite, sodium hydrogensulfite or sodium thiosulfate, is added to the waste water at a rate of ten fold mol by cyanogen contained in the waste water. The reduction is done at 30W90°C. Thereafter, the reacted solution is adjusted at pH 1W4 by the addition of sulfuric or hydrochloric acid, to form precipitate. The formed precipitate is separated and removed by a manner such as filtering or sedimenting. In this way, the concentration of cyanogen in the filtrate is reduced to 1ppm or lower.
