Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the density of CO2 to be measured on the spot and eliminate the drift of measured values, by measuring the intensity of transmitted light through a transparent connecting tube set at the mouth of a testee. CONSTITUTION:The testee is requested to take the end of a connecting tube with an airtight window 3 of transparent sapphir etc. in his mouth. The light from a light source 4 passes through the window 3 and the breath in the connecting tube 2 and then it reaches a spectral filter 8 after the conversion of it into intermittent light by means of a light interrupter 6. After that, only the absorption wave-length of CO2 gas is converted photoelectrically by a detector 9. The signal thus converted is amplified by an amplifier 10 and after its rectification, it is applied to a logarithimic amplifier 12 to get output voltage Vc. As the output voltage Vc contains the fluctuation of the detection sensitivity of the detector and drift element due to the stain on the window 3, a voltage proportional to the density of CO2 is taken out from an output terminal 14 by applying the voltage at the time of suction through a base- cramp circuit 13.
