Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a freeze without decreasing ability of evaporation cooling in a radiator for an engine performing evaporation cooling, by providing an alcohol tank in a position higher than a water tank and equipping a shutoff valve between the both tanks. CONSTITUTION:Cooling water is circulated in the cooling jacket of an engine cylinder, and steam of the cooling waer is condensed and liquefied in a radiator 20. An alcohol tank 23 is arranged in a higher position than a water tank 24. When an engine is not in operation, a shutoff valve 26 is fully opened, then alcohol in the tank 23 flows into the tank 24 and is mixed with cooling water to prevent a freeze at cold time. At normal operation, the shutoff valve 26 is closed, and steam from a steam passage 21 is cooled in a heat radiating passage 30 and dropped into the water tank 24. Alcohol advances to the rearmost flow in the heat radiating passage 30 and is accumulated in alcohol tank 23. In this way, evaporation cooling ability is not decreased and the radiator can be prevented from freezing at cold time.
