PURPOSE:To prevent a reproduction output from deteriorating by controlling latent wear by providing magnetic and nonmagnetic parts alternately, and then reading a recorded signal while sliding them relatively on a recording medium on which the signal is recorded. CONSTITUTION:A polished recording-medium contact surface is coated with resist 31 firstly, and a pattern is baked on it, thus performing development. This surface is etched and the resist is peeled off, forming grooves 32 which correspond to the pattern of an auxiliary magnetic pole surface 25 for signal detection. Then, resist 33 is applied, a pattern is baked, and development is carried out to work a wear-resisting material 34 to the same thickness with the depth of the grooves 32. Next, the residual resist 33 is removed and the grooves 32 are charged with the wear-resisting material 34 in a desired pattern to obtain a magnetic pickup having a wear-resisting part 29.
