PURPOSE:To perform fixation efficiently while improving the durability of rollers by switching the press-contacting force of each roller, and pressing each roller with adequate press-contacting force according to a fixing process. CONSTITUTION:In a wait time after a main switch is turned on, a fixing roller 2 and a press roller 3 are in an about 5kg light press-contacting state, and the press roller 3 and a heat roller 8 are also in an about 2kg light press-contacting state. The rollers 2, 3 and 8 rotate and at the same time, the rollers 2 and 3 are heated. When the surface of the press roller 3 reaches 150 deg.C, three rollers 2, 3 and 8 are released from the press-contacting states. With a copy button pressed, a motor M for pressing rotates to apply 300kg pressure between the rollers 2 and 3, and copying paper passes between the rollers 2 and 3 to perform fixation. In wait and fixation modes, pressure application is carried out separately by two stages, improving the durability of the rollers.
