Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve an processing precision, by a method wherein a reflecting mirror against laser light is attached to one end of a reference rod which has a low-thermal expansion factor and is secured to a point to be measured and in a core of a moving member of a machine tool. CONSTITUTION:A reference rod 21, such as amber, having a low-thermal expansion factor, is inserted into a guide tube 18 attached in a perforation 1 formed in an upper part of a saddle 4 of a machine tool, and one end thereof is secured to the guide tube 18 in aposition (a-a' line), where a real measurement is estimated to take place, by means of a press pin 22. A reflecting mirror 16' against laser light is mounted to the other end of the reference rod 21, and the movement of the saddle 4 is regulated utilizing reflecting light of laser light. Even if the saddle 4 is affected by heat, a distance between the position of the reflecting mirror 16' and the position (a-a' line), where a real measurement is estimated to take place, is kept constant, and this causes improving of processing precision of a machine tool.
