Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance printing quality and to halve a peak current, by arranging the printing wires of a 24 pin printing head in 2 lines wherein each line has 12 pins in the longitudinal direction with a pitch of a half dot being shifted, and alternately performing driving and printing. CONSTITUTION:In the serial dot printer, wherein a character 1 comprises the assembly of the dots, the printing wires 3 of the 24 pin printing head are arranged in 2 lines wherein each line has 12 pins in the longitudinal direction with a space corresponding to the diameter of the head being provided, so that the gap in the other line is filled up when one line is shifted to the lateral direction. In the printing operation, after one line has been driven and printed (a), the other line is shifted and printed (b), and one longitudinal line of 24 pins is substantially printed. While the conventional 24 pin dot printer has required the driving current for 24 pins, the printer of the present invention can be driven by the peak current of the valve one half the former current.
