Abstract

PURPOSE:To start automatic charging accurately and stably by constituting a detecting means for the height of the molten metal charged into a mold of an eddy current type molten metal level detector provided movably upward and downward within the mold. CONSTITUTION:An eddy current type molten metal level detector 6 is so set beforehand as to assume a lower limit position, and the charging of molten steel is started at a prescribed opening. Since the molten steel level in a mold 1 is detected with the detector 6, the rate of charging into the mold 1 is regulated by regulating the nozzle opening with a molten metal level controller 8 and an inflow molten steel flow regulator 9 in such a way that the rate of rising of the value of said level per unit time attains the prescribed value. At the point of the time when the molten steel level in the mold 1 arrives at the prescribed position where is does not contact the detector 6, the detector 6 is moved upward and is stopped in the prescribed position. Thence, the molten metal level in the mold is controlled and in order to maintain the steady control position after the arrival at said position, the nozzle opening is regulated in accordance with the detected results of the detector 5.
