Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain molten steel level constant by periodically adjusting the opening degree of a sliding nozzle in such a manner that the fluctuations of the molten steel level within molds are kept within a permissible range. CONSTITUTION:An arbitrary level h1 is set by manual operation in a manner as to attain h1>h0 with respect to a targeted molten steel level h0, and the opening degree of a nozzle is set at x1. Thence, the operation is switched to automatic operation, and the level displacements are sampled at a period T, from which a level h2 and an area S1 are determined. From the level h2 at a time T, DELTAh=h2-h1 is determined and is compared with a permissible fluctuation range DELTAH. When it is out of said range, the opening degree is lowered to x2, thereby lowering the rate of increase. A area S2 is determined at a time 2T, and a level h3 is determined. If h3- h2 is not within the permissible range, further the opening degree is lowered to x3, thereby lowering the rate of increase in the level. When the levels h4-h3 in periods 2T-3T are within the permissible range, h4-h is calculated and the opening degree is lowered to x4, thereby largely lowering the level. When the level coincides with the target molten steel level h0, the opening degree of the nozzle is set at x3. Thereby, the level enters the permissible range.
