Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a serodiagnostic latex having a narrow particle size distribution and not undergoing a nonspecific coagulation reaction, by polymerizing styrene in the presence of submicroscopic silica particles by use of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: Titled latex is obtained by charging (A) 100pts.wt. styrene, (B) 0.01W10wt% submicroscopic silica particles or aqueous collidal solution thereof and (C) 0.01W10wt% water-soluble radical polymerization initiator, e.g., potassium persulfate into a reaction vessel charged with water and heating the mixture, under agitation, to 50W100°C. This latex is sensitized with an antigen or an antibody and the presence or absence of the homologous antibody or antigen is judged from coagulation reaction.
