Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform contactless ignition, by combining an on-off element with a light emitting device of light emitting diode (LED) or the like and a photoconductive element and applying said on-off element to a distributor, main switch, etc. of an ignition device. CONSTITUTION:A distributor 2 is constituted by light emitting diodes (LED) 12- 18 and their corresponding photoconductive elements 20-24, to obtain an on-off element. High voltage is generated in an ignition coil 44 by a main switch 60 on-off operated synchronously with an internal combustion engine. Then each LED is successively turned on in accordance with a signal of a selector circuit 54 successively on-off operated in accordance with ignition timing of each cylinder, and this causes impedance of the photoconductive element to decrease, utilizing this fact, high voltage generated in said ignition coil is distributed to each spark plug 46-52. An LED may be substituted by other light sources, further an on-off element of this combination may be utilized also for a main switch. The on-off element combined with this LED and photoconductive element can perform contactless ignition in an ignition device, and a level of noise can be reduced.
