Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce molds of good collapsing property after casting in the case of phenolic resin binders as well by adding a specific dicarboxylic acid derivs. to an org. binder for molding sand which forms the molds when hardened by heating. CONSTITUTION:0.5-30wt% metallic salt or metallic hydrogen salt of dicarboxylic acids having <=4 carbon numbers or their hydrate is used for 100pts.wt. a binder for molding sand. These dicarboxylic acid derivs. can be used independently or in combination of >=2 kinds. Here, the reason for limiting the number of C lies in the possibility that the atoms of O in the molecules of the compd. attain a large ratio. In fact, at C5 or above, the ability as an O supplying agent degrades and this is inadequate. With excessively small usage of the dicarboxylic acid derivs., the mold collapsibility degrades and conversely, if it is too much, the m.p. of molding sand lowers, resulting in decreased strength of the mold. The mold made by this molding sand has good collapsing property in spite of relatively low temp. of molten metal of Al, etc.
