Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform painting at extremely high efficiency and a low cost by fitting plug members closely and tightly into the opening parts of a cast iron pipe whose inside surface is electrostatically coated with powder, through utilization of the elastic properties of tapered elastic members, and dipping the pipe into a tar bath.
CONSTITUTION: Plugs 3 are fitted respectively into both end openings of a cast iron pipe 1 formed with a powder paint film 2 on the inside surface to prescribed thickness. Each plug 3 consists of a metal-mode body 3a of a bottomed cylindrical shape provided with a dowel 3c on the outside surface in the bottom part and a tapered part 3b formed by being lined with an elastic material, for example, rubber or the like, assuming a tapered shape on the outside circumferential surface thereof. Here, it is desirable that the taper angle α of the part 3b is not in excess of 10° with respect to the axial center. The pipe 1 fitted with the plugs 3 is dipped into a tar bath, whereby the tar is painted surely on the outside surface thereof without allowing the entry of the tar into the pipe 1.
