Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a uniform surface covering metal layer with an arbitrary composition, by producing a metal layer on a substrate metal material, and irradiating a beam having a controlled high energy density. CONSTITUTION:A metal powder having a prescribed composition is applied on a substrate metal material 1 for example of carbon steel or the like, or metals having a prescribed composition are plated or spray-coated on the material 1, so that a metal coat is formed. Then a high energy density beam 2 such as a laser beam, an electron beam, etc. having a suitable energy density is irradiated, while the beam 2 or the substrate metal material 1 is moved. By this beam scanning, the volume of the metals to be melted is controlled, and the surface covering metal layer and part of the substrate metal 1 with a prescribed thickness are melted, alloyed, and homogenized. Further, by controlling the volume of the metals to be melted and the melting period, elevation of temperature of the surrounding metal is avoided, and controlling heating of the melted part, quenching of the melted part due to the heat conduction to the adjacent metal can be realized.
