Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of an electrode wire, by embedding an electrode mainly composed of platinum in which a solid solution of 1-2wt% nickel is contained in a metallic oxide semiconductor. CONSTITUTION:A metallic oxide semiconductor 2 is made by mixing 98mol% TiO2 powder and 2mol% Pt powder and organic resin is added, then, press- processing is carried out. At the time of carrying out the press-processing, an electrode wire 1 mainly composed of platinum in which 1-12wt% nickel is embedded in the inner part of said powder. This formed body is put into an electric furnace, and its temperature is raised at the rate of 200 deg.C/hr speed in flowing N2, and a gas sensing element is made by burning said body at 120 deg.C for one hr. Said element is fixed in a ceramic insulating tube 4 by a heat- resisting cement 3. Carbon is not deposited on the electrode even when the gas sensing element, constituted in such a manner, is arranged in exhaust gas of an engine.
