Abstract
PURPOSE: To simplify separate and recover layered materials from a scrap multilayered material by heating the scrap material to a temp. below the m.p. to form an intermetallic compound between the layers and cooling the material.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a scrap multilayered material 4 having an Ni layer 2 and an Al alloy layer 3 discharged from a process for manufacturing bearing metal is heated to a temp. below the m.p. of Ni and the m.p. of the Al alloy to form an intermetallic Ni-Al compound layer 5. By quenching the heated material, the intermetallic compound layer 5, the Ni layer 2 and the Al alloy layer 3 are crushed and separated almost parallel along the interfaces 6. When the layers are not separated after the cooling, by applying a mechanical impact, they are easily separated. The heating and cooling may be required repeatedly.
