Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a molded product which has excellent neutron detecting ability and effectively shields radiation without generating secondary radiation by using the composition wherein the amount of boron (B) in the specified range and the amount of ZnS series phosphor in the specified range are mixed in the polyethylene resin. CONSTITUTION:To 100pts.wt. of the polyethylene resin (it is desirable that density is 0.95g/cc or more and molecular weight is 30,000 or more), 50-350pts.wt. of amorphous B powder whose density is preferably 1.73g/cm<3>, purity is 96% or more, and weight average particle diameter is 0.5-500mu, and 100-400pts.wt. of ZnS series phospor powder (silvered active ZnS is desirable) whose weight average particle diameter is 1.0-50mu are mixed. Thus the composition is formed. At first, polyethylene is fused. Then part of B and part of ZnS series phosphor are added therein. The mixture is well kneaded. Thereafter the remaining B and ZnS series phospor are added and evenly mixed, and the desired sheet and the like are molded. Thus the material, which has excellent shielding property and sensitivity and does not generate secondary radiation, is obtained.
