Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the starting of an engine, by controlling a valve provided in the compensating air passage of a carburetor, to a set position corresponding to the starting condition of the engine, when it is stopped, so that a mixture with an air fuel ratio required for the restarting of the engine is supplied thereto.
CONSTITUTION: A carburetor 1 comprises a compensating air passage 11 connecting an air cleaner 9 to the downstream side of a throttle valve 10, a by-pass valve 12 for controlling the cross-sectional area of the passage 11, a drive means 8 for controlling the degree of opening of the valve 12, and a detector 13-1 for the degree of opening of the valve. A control unit 14 regulates the degree of opening of the by-pass valve 13 through the drive means 8 on the basis of the outputs of an air fuel ratio detector 7, the set position detector 13-1 and an engine operation detector (temperature detector) 15. When the engine is stopped, the by-pass valve 12 is placed in a set position to attain an air fuel ratio required for the restarting of the engine.
