Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent rhe swelling of the seal-bonded parts of a glass tube by cooling the outside of the intermediate part of the tube when both ends of the tube are irradiated with laser beams and seal-bonded to tightly seal a gas in the tube.
CONSTITUTION: For example, in the manufacture of a lead switch, one end of a glass tube 3 is seal-bonded together with a lead 5 with laser beams, the tube 3 is put in the long hole of a jig 7, and the inter-mediate part of the tube 3 in the longitudinal direction is held with the jig 7. The lead 5 and a lead 6 are also held with the jig 7. While cooling the tube 3 by feeding a cooling liq. to holes 8 around the long hole of the jig 7, the other end of the tube 3 is irradiated with laser beams 1 through a condenser 2, whereby it is melted by sudden heating and seal-bonded. Both the ends of the tube 3 may be seal-bonded simultaneously.
