Abstract
PURPOSE:To avoid leaving any uncut portion on the axis of rotation of a workpiece, by providing a servomotor on a main rotary shaft on which a tool is held, to specifically control the radius of rotation of the tool depending on the angle of its rotation to revolve the tool along an ellipse. CONSTITUTION:When a paraboloid of revolution is expressed as z=1/4alpha(x<2>+y<2>) where alpha denotes the focal distance, the angle phi of rotation of a tool 25 and the radius gamma of its rotation are controlled into a relationship defined by a formulaI. The axis of a main rotary shaft 24 is inclined at an angle of theta to that of rotation of a workpiece W. Trains of pulses are produced for simultaneous operation along two axes by a numerical controller 45 on the basis of electronic computation according to the formulaI. On train of pulses are applied to a servomotor 43 to rotate the main shaft 24 for the tool 25. The other train of pulses are applied to another servomotor 28 to move the tool 25 in the radial direction. The cutting edge of the tool 25 is thus revolved along an ellipse. The workpiece W is slowly rotated. As a result, the desired paraboloid of revolution is generated.
