Abstract
PURPOSE:To avoid leaving any uncut portion on the axis of rotation of a workpiece, by providing a servomotor on a main rotary shaft on which a tool is held, to specifically control the radius of rotation of the tool depending on the angle of rotation of the tool to bring the tool into line contact with the generated surface of the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:When a parabola is defined as z=x<2>/4alpha where alpha denotes the focal distance, the angle theta and radius gamma of rotation of a tool 23 are controlled into a relationship defined by a formulaI. Trains of pulses are produced for simultaneous operation along two axes by a numerical controller 40 on the basis of electronic computation according to the formulaI. The train of pulses for the operation along one axis are applied to a servomotor 37 to rotate a main shaft 22 for a tool 23. The other train of pulses are applied to another servomotor 31 to move the tool 23 in the radial direction. The cutting edge of the tool 23 is thus revolved along the parabola. A workpiece W is slowly rotated. As a result, a desired paraboloid of revolution is generated.
