Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure a noise level in a short time when no telephone call is made, by providing measuring devices at both terminals of a toll circuit to be measured, and performing the measurement simultaneously by said both measuring devices. CONSTITUTION:In a terminating device SM, a receiver 35 receives a forward- path measurement signal tone arriving from an originating device MM through a toll circuit to be measured, and only said measurement signal tone is selected by a BPF42 through the side (a) of a contact 39, so that level measurement is performed by a measuring instrument 34. While said measurement signal tone is not sent from the originating device MM, the conatct 39 is changed over to a side (b), and the measuring instrument 34 measures its noise level passed through a noise weighting circuit 37 when no telephone call is made. Simultaneously, in the originating device MM, a measuring instrument 14 measures the level of a backward-path measurement signal sent from the terminating device SM and its noise level during a no-call period by utilizing a no-signal period.
