Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the number of checking persons to detect defects in all the directions of the outer surface by moving a material to be checked in the axial direction in a spiral state, magnetizing the material in the axial direction and the circumferential direction under the noncontact state, and detecting the defects under the spirally moving state. CONSTITUTION:The material to be tested 1 is spirally rotated and fed by a V roller 2. When the tip part of the material 1 passes the detector at the input side of the flaw detector and the tip part is detected, magnetizing currents are flowed through magnetizing coils 5 and 5' and magnetizing yokes 4 and 4' based on said detected signal. Magnetic powder liquid is sprayed on the surface of the material to be checked 1 from a magnetic powder liquid spraying nozzle 6 at the same time. ACs having the phase difference of 90 deg. are applied to said magnetizing coils 5 and 5' and said magnetizing yokes 4 and 4'. The magnetic powder display pattern, which is generated on the defective part when the material to be checked 1 passes the yokes 4 and 4' can be detected visually or by an ITV and the like at the position of the yokes 4 and 4', i.e. a part AB, through the opening part of the side of a device frame 10.
