Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I(A is H or OH; B is Br, OCH3 or OH; however, either one of A or B is always OH and both will not represent OH at the same time) and a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 1-(3-Hydroxybenzylienehydrazino)phthalazine
USE: A synthetic intermediate for a compound having β-blocking action and vasodilator action simultaneously.
PROCESS: A hydrazine expressed by formula II or a salt thereof is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III, preferably in the presence of a base in an inert solvent, at 0°C to the boiling point of a solvent for 0.5W5hr to give the compound expressed by formula I.
