Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the assembly of a piston body and a connecting rod by a method in which a ball sheet with a spherical recess is projectionally provided to the lower part of a piston body, the ball portion of a connecting rod is fitted into the sheet, and then the tip portion of the sheet is caulked. CONSTITUTION:A connecting rod 1 consists of a large-diameter end 4 and a ball stud 3 whose one end is connected to said large-diameter end 4 and the other end is provided with a ball 2. On the other hand, in the inside of a piston body 5, a ball sheet 6 having a spherical dent 7 at its center is formed projectionally. In the assembly of these, the ball 2 is fitted into the spherical dent 7, and the projected end 6b of the ball sheet 6 is caulked along the ball 2 by means of a caulking tool 17. The caulking tool 17 is moved vertically by a ram 13 and a notch 21 of a size corresponding to 1/4 or more of the diameter of the spherical recess 20 is formed in the portion 18 to be caulked. The caulking process is conducted while moving the connecting rod 1 on either side.
