Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the manufacturing process of a ball joint, by forming lubricating oil supplying passages simultaneously at the time of caulking a spherical seat to be fitted to a spherical body of a connecting rod. CONSTITUTION:A spherical body 28 of a connecting rod 25 is put into a spherical seat 27 of a piston 23. By applying a force to a caulking tool 30 in the direction of arrows A shown in the drawing, the spherical seat 27 is caulked inwards and a caulked portion 33 held in tight contact with the spherical body 28 is formed. Here, the portion of the spherical seat 27 facing a clearance groove 32 of the caulking tool 30 swells out into the clearance groove 32 by the force of the caulking tool 30 and wrinkles 34 are formed at said portion of the spherical seat 27. By these wrinkles 34, interstices are formed between the spherical seat 27 and the spherical body 28, and lubricating oil supplying passages 35 are formed by these interstices.
