Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase a dynamic range without decreasing the gain of a differential amplifier, by making the saturation currents of both transistors (TR) of the amplifier different.
CONSTITUTION: The emitters of TRs Q1 and Q2 are connected in common and grounded through a constant current power source IO. The collectors of the TRs Q1 and Q2 are both connected to a power source Vcc through a load resistance Rc, and power sources E1 and E2 are connected to their bases. When the saturation current of the TRQ2 is set (n) times that of the TRQ1, the voltage gain of a differential amplifier has little variation, i.e. is nearly equal to that when n=1 unless (n) is extremely large, thereby increasing the dynamic range of a collector current Ic2 nearly (n) times. To the TRQ1, the TRQ1 having emitter area equal to that of the TRQ1 is connected in parallel, and an FET may be used as said TR.
