Abstract

PURPOSE: To dehumidify a gas such as air efficiently by a method wherein two heat exchangers connected in series with each other are switched alternately, and the gas is passed through the heat exchangers while keeping the first one of the exchangers in a iced condition and the second one in a frosted condition.
CONSTITUTION: The gas such as air containing moisture is fed into a primary heat exchanger 7 through an air compressor 27, an after-cooler 28 and a tank 29 to cool the gas by a cooled dry air 32. The gas is then passed sequentially through the heat exchangers 1a and 1b which are partitioned into two chambers by partition walls 2 and are connected in series with each other through a connecting passage 3, whereby the moisture contained in the gas is frosted on the coolers 10a, 10b of the heat exchangers. Then the temperature of the heat exchanger 1a is raised to about -40°CW about -15°C so that the moisture in the introduced gas is frozen into ice and a part of it is removed as waterdrops into a waterdrop collector 9. The gas being deprived of moisture at the cooler 10a enters the second heat exchanger 1b, where it is cooled to about -40°C to cause the residual moisture to be frosted on the cooler 10b, thereby removing the moisture completely. By alternately switching these operations through switching valves 6a, 6b the moisture in the gas is removed.
