Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has a high adhesive strengh between a base material and a magnetic layer especially and is superior in weather resistance and durability, by laminating magnetic layers where the angle of incidence of a vapor-deposited magnetic metal to a moving base material is changed continuously from a low value to a high value. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic metallic materials such as Fe, Co, Ni, and their alloy are vapor-deposited in vacuum from a vaporization source 21, which is shigted to the lower right of a cooling can 22, onto the surface of a base material B such as a polyester film continuously from a high angle of incidence to a low angle of incidence to the normal of the surface of the base material B while rotating the can 22 counter-clockwise to move the base material B to the right, thus forming the first magnetic thin film 1. Next, the base material is rewound, and magnetic metallic materials ar vapor-deposited again similarly to laminate the second magnetic thin film 2. Curves and inclined patterns of crystal columns of films 1 and 2 are inclined to the right and are projected upward as shown in 11 and 12 in figure. Thus, a magnetic tape for high-density recording superior in weather resistance and durability where the base material B and magnetic layers 1 and 2 adhere to each other strongly and the packing density is high.
