Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and recover uranium contained in phosphate ore in a high yield by adding gypsum as a medium to a wet process phosphoric acid soln. obtd. by treating the ore with a mineral acid so as to allow a very small amount of uranium contained in the soln. to be adsorbed.
CONSTITUTION: Phosphate ore contg. 100W200ppm U is treated with a mineral acid such as sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid to manufacture a wet process phosphoric acid soln., and the U is shifted to the soln. Metallic iron powder is added to the soln. to reduce the sexivalent U to quadrivalent U, and by adding α-type or β-type hemihydrate gypsum, a slurry is prepared. The gypsum adsorbs the U contained in the ore, so it is dispersed in water and hydrated, and when the hemihydrate gypsum is converted into gypsum dihydrate, the U is shifted from the solid phase to the liq. phase. This gypsum dihydrate is separated by filtration, and by adding a precipitant such as NaOH or an ammonium compound to the U-contg. filtrate, the U is precipitated as sodium uranate or the like and recovered.
