Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate an easy assembly and at the same time to increase the reproducibility of an optical switch, by forming a trapezoidal groove on a substrate containing an optical fiber and a lens of refractive index distribution type which are fixed to a V-groove and setting a prism in a movable way into the trapezoidal groove. CONSTITUTION:As illustrated in the figure, a V groove and a trapezoidal groove are formed on a substrate 20 made of the silicon single crystal by means of the photolithography and the anisotropic ethcing. Then a lens 15 of refractive index distribution type is set to a wide groove 26, and an optical fiber 14 is put to a narrow V-groove 27 respectively. The ends faces of the lens 15 and the fiber 14 are joined to each other with a transparent adhesive layer, and at the same time the desired parts of these end faces are adhered to the side wall of th groove 27. A prism 16 is slided within a trapezoidal groove 30 to switch and transmit selectively the light given from the fiber 14 to an optical fiber 17 or 18.
