EXAMPLE: 1- Ethyl-6, 8-difluoro- 7 -methyl-4-oxo-1, 4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid.
USE: Antibacterial: it shows high antibacterial activity against gram-positive and -netative bacteria, especially being effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonus aeruginosa.
PREPARATION: For example, the reaction between a compound of formula II (R2 is residue of ester) and another compound of formula III (X is halogen) is followed by hydrolysis of the product, a compound of formula IV, to give the compound of formulaI.
