Abstract
PURPOSE: A lubricating oil composition, prepared by treating a 3W5C hydrocarbon mixture containing isobutylene with n-butene in the liquid phase with a polymerizing catalyst, and suitable for use in a high-pressure gas compressor for preparing high-pressure polyethylene.
CONSTITUTION: A 3W5C hydrocarbon mixture containing isobutylene and n- butene in the liquid phase is treated at 0W100°C in the presence of a polymerizing catalyst, preferably a Friedel-Crafts catalyst such as aluminum chloride, to give the aimed composition containing an aliphatic hydrocarbon polymer having a number-average molecular weight of 400W1,000, a viscosity of 50W3,000cSt at 37.8°C and average 25 or less quaternary carbon atoms based on 1,000 carbon atoms. The aliphatic hydrocarbon preferably has no double bond in the molecule prepared by the hydrogenating method.
