Abstract

PURPOSE: An aqueous solution of polyethylene oxide of high molecular weight is subjected to high-speed agitation to break high-polymer molecules to give a binder used for an aqueous coating for fluorescent lamps with an adequate viscosity in low concentration without threading.
CONSTITUTION: A polyethylene oxide (PEO) of more than 1,000,000 average molecular weight is dissolved in water under low-speed agitation to form an aqueous solution of higher than 0.5wt%, preferably 0.5W1.5wt%, then the solution is subjected to high-speed agitation to cause the fission of chains of high-polymer to prepare the objective binder aqueous solution with a viscosity of 50W250, preferably 100W200 centipoise at 25°C.
