Abstract
PURPOSE: A polyester fiber, dyeable with a basic dye at normal pressure, capable of exhibiting sufficient color developing properties, and comprising a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing isophthalic acid containing a metal sulfonate group with a polyalkylene glycol in such a proportion as to satisfy specific relationships.
CONSTITUTION: (a) Isophthalic acid containing a metal sulfonate group, preferably sodium 3,5-di(carbomethoxy)benzenesulfonate, is copolymerized with (b) a polyalkylene glycol of formula I [A is formula II (l is 1W10; n is 2W5; m is 2W100) or OH], preferably methoxypolyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of 1,000W 5,000, to satisfy the formulas 1.8≤S≤3.2 and 2-0.5S≤M≤7-0.2S [S (mol%) is the molar percentage of (a); M (wt%) is the weight percentage of (b)]. A PET copolyester having an intrinsic viscosity [η] of 0.35W0.55dl/g thus obtained is spun and drawn to form the aimed fiber.
USE: Interior products, e.g. a carpet or blanket.
