Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled fibers, prepared by copolymerizing the third component, e.g. a metallic salt of a sulfoisophthalic acid and isophthalic acid, etc. with polybutylene terephthalate in a specific proportion, and spinning the resultant copolymer, having a specified dissolution rate constant, basic dyeable and subjectable to the alkali treatment.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A metallic salt of a sulfoisophthalic acid expressed by formula I [R1 and R2 are H, -(CH2)nH, -(CH2)nOH (n is an integer 1W6); M is alkali (earth) metal] and (B) isophthalic acid, adipic acid and/or sebacic acid (or derivatives thereof) in the total amount <15mol% are copolymerized with polybutylene terephthalate to satisfy the relations of formulas II an III [y and x are the copolymerization ratios (mol%) of the compounds (A) and (B)] at the same time (the so- called area surrounded by points C, D, E and F). The copolymer is then melt spun to give the aimed fibers having a dissolution rate constant k(cm/sec) of formula IV [R is the weight fraction of insoluble polymeric substances after t(sec); D is the denier of the single fiber] satisfying the relation of formula V on treatment in a 3% aqueous solution of NaOH at 100°C.
