Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled sheath-core type conjugate fiber that is composed of two kinds of polyethylene terephthalate whose intrinsic viscosities are in specific ranges and different from each other and has a specified filament denier, thus being used as tire cords, because of its high strength and Young's modulus and low heat shrinkage.
CONSTITUTION: A combination of 2 kinds of polyethylene terephthalates A and B different in intrinsic viscosity is selected so that their intrinsic viscosities satisfy the following equatins: 0.50≤[η]A≤1.20 ([η]A is the intrinsic viscosity of component A), 0.35≤[η]B≤0.85 ([η]B is the intrinsic viscosity of component B) and 0.10≤[η]A-[η]B≤0.60 and melt spun through a spinneret for sheath-core conjugate fiber. Then, the conjugate yarn is drawn to give sheath- core type conjugate fiber of 2W7d filament thickness, higher than 6.0g/d strength, 1,300W2,400kg/mm2 Young's modulus and 2W12% heat shrinkage in which the weight ratio of mA/mB is in the range of 20/80≤mA/mB≤80/20.
