Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate azeotropic mixed liquids and mixed liquids having near b.p. industrially and advantageously by using a thin silicone rubber membrane with superior heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A silicone resin is cast on a glass plate to 150μ thickness, and is set at room temp., whereby a silicone rubber membrane is obtd. This membrane is immersed for 30min in benzene/methanol of 20°C for 30min, after which it is set in a separating device of 23.5cm2 effective membrane area. Mixed liquids of benzene and ethanol at an equal amt. are circulated and supplied into a mixing chamber in the atmosphere, then an evacuating chamber is sucked to about 35mmHg with a vacuum pump, whereby the separation is effected. The rate of permeation at 20°C is 2,100ml/m2.hr and the coefft. of separation of benzene from ethanol is 6.33; the rate of permeation at 60°C is 4,660ml/m2.hr, and the coefft. of separation is 4.87. In this way, the membrane of thie invention does not cause any change in the membrane at elevated temp. and has high permeability for liquid molecules.
