Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce electric power consumption and to provide advantageous constitution without the need for terminal lead-out wires in a fixed display part by providing the fixed display part by using a liquid crystal cell provided with an electrode substrate applied with an orientation treatment differing from that of a circumference in the part removed partially of an orientation film. CONSTITUTION:After an oriented film 6 is formed on a liquid crystal substrate 1, resist ink 7 is printed on the film 6 by screen printing or the like on the part to leave the film 6. At this time, the part 8 desired to be displayed fixedly is left patterned without printing the ink 7. Next, the film 6 is etched away of the unnecessary parts. A perpendicularly oriented film 9 is next applied thinly thereon by a perpendicular orientation treatment. Thence, the ink 7 is stripped, and the surface of the substrate 1 is rubbed to rub the residual film 6, whereby it is horizontally oriented. In this way, the fixed display part having the orientation differing from that of the film 6 is formed on the perpendicularly oriented part 9. This part 8 is not applied with voltage; hence, no terminals are required, and the cell has advantageous constitution.
