Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the luminous brightness and the color purity of a green luminous phosphor for a color picture tube by preparing the phosphor from a mixture consisting of at least one element of Y, Gd, La and Lu, and a rare earth element oxide which has a given composition and is made by coactivating Tb and Db in a given proportion. CONSTITUTION:At least one element of Y, Gd, La and Lu, and either a rare earth element oxide which contains both Tb and Dy, or a dompound such as a carbonate, an oxalate or a nitrate which contains both Tb and Dy and can change into an oxide by heating and sintering are homogeneously mixed and sintered. The composition of these compounds are represented by the general formula; x and y are restricted to 0.0001<=x<=0.1 and 0.0001<=y<=0.05. In addition, the Dy concentration is made over 5.20mol% of the Tb concentraion. By the means mentioned above, the luminous brightness and the color purity of a luminous phosphor for a color picture tube can be increased.
