Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled thick-walled foam having excellent compression recovery rate, cushioning properties, tensile strength and tear strength and improved heat resistance, by crosslinking an ionomer resin with an org. peroxide crosslinking agent or ionizing radiation and, at the same time, foaming said resin with a thermal decomposition type blowing agent.
CONSTITUTION: An ionomer resin such as a metal ion-crosslinked olefin polymer is crosslinked by using an org. peroxide crosslinking agent such as dicumyl peroxide and/or ionizing radiation, and, at the same time, is foamed by using a thermal decomposition type blowing agent to produce the titled foam. There can be obtd. a thick-walled ionomer resin foam having improved heat resistance and a uniform fine foam structure and superior in compression recovery rate, cushioning properties, tensile strength and tear strength to various rubbers and synthetic resin foams produced by conventional methods.
