Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the production of malodors during molding in the production of a co-condensation resin of fufuryl alcohol, urea and formaldehyde as a binder for molding self-curing molds, by removing the low b.p. components of the industrial furfuryl alcohol added after dehydration. CONSTITUTION:In molding of self-curing molds for casting, a co-condensation resin obtd. by causing furfuryl alcohol, 1 kind selected from urea or phenol and formaldehyde is used as a binder for refractory aggregate such as molding sand. In this case, this co-condensation resin is dehydrated in a pressure reduced state, after which industrial furfuryl alcohol is added thereto and these are caused to react. Finally, the temp. is raised, and azeotropic distillation is accomplished, whereby 1-10% low b.p. components of the industrial furfuryl alcohol are removed. The degradation of working environments by producing malodors in the molding of molds is obviated.
