Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the risetime and falltime fuel injection and bring the fuel injection characteristics closer to a square waveform, by a method wherein the injection period is determined through controlling the disphacement of a nozzle needle by controlling the pressure supplied to a needle holder, in a fuel injection device for Diesel engine.
CONSTITUTION: In the condition where compressed fuel is supplied from a fuel compressor 10 to an oil sump 21 at a fuel injection nozzle 17, when a control valve 37 is fully opened, the pressure in a chamber 29 of the needle holder 25 is rapidly lowered below the pressure applied from the oil sump 21, so that the nozzle needle 19 is moved upward and the fuel is jetted from a nozzle hoel 20. When the valve 37 is switched to a fully closed position, the pressure inside the chamber 29 is rapidly increased, causing the needle 19 to close the nozzle hole 20. Namely the opening and closing of the nozzle hole 20 is controlled by the change of pressure in the needle holder 25. Accordingly, the risetime and falltime of fuel injection can be improved, as compared to those in the case where a nozzle spring is used.
