Abstract
PURPOSE: To optimize the fuel injection timing by a method wherein the opening time of a solenoid valve for determined the amount of a fuel filled in a timing pump chamber is controlled in accordance with the load on a Diesel engine, the engine speed and the like.
CONSTITUTION: The fuel pressurized by the second fuel pump 54 and regulated in pressure by a pressure-regulating valve 56 is regulated in quantity by a solenoid valve 55, and is fed into the timing pump chamber 21, where it pushes up a timing plunger 4 by an amount of stroke corresponding to the fuel injection timing. When a predetermined amount of fuel is introduced into the chamber 21, a force feed plunger 3 is flifted by a cam (not shown), and the fuel is supplied from the first fuel pump 53 into a force feed pump chamber 20 and fill up the latter. Then, when the plunger 3 is lowered, the fuel in the chamber 20 is pressurized and the plunger 4 is moved downward. In this case, a timing reed 60 makes a port 37 open into the chamber 21. When the plunger 4 is further lowered and the port 37 is closed, the fuel in the chamber 21 can be move to any place, the plunger 4 is stopped, the pressure in the chamber 20 is increased and the fuel is jetted through a nozzle 43. Accordingly, since the injection timing is controlled by the amount of the fuel introduced into the chamber 21, the opening time of the valve 55 can be controlled according to the engine load or the like.
