Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst of high activity having durability by depositing nickel oxide or cobalt oxide on a titania carrier as a catalyst for hydrogenating heavy duty oils liquefied from coal.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst prepd. by depositing nickel oxide or cobalt oxide alone or their mixture on a titania carrier is used as a catalyst in the copresence of hydrogen for hydrogenating heavy duty oils contg. polycyclic aromatic compounds and ashes which are liquefied materials of coal extracted from coal. Such catalyst is strong to materials to be poisoned such as ashes and halogen and since it is highly active at temp. at which no coking occurs, it is useful.
